How We Help Our Students Experience Brisbane
We regularly take our students from The Green Academy Brisbane on city tours, with a professional guide who shares all sorts of interesting facts with us.
I’m proud to say that we are a truly diverse community, with students from all over the world, from Asia to South America. Everyone is interested not only in learning English and preparing for immigration tests but also in experiencing the essence of Australia. That's why we explore various local points of interest.
Some Curious Facts About The City
Did you know that Brisbane is one of the sunniest cities in the world. It has more than 300 sunny days a year! It also boasts a very unusual urban layout, with the Brisbane River snaking its way through the city, shaping various districts around its curves and turns. The traditional name for Brisbane, preserved from the Indigenous people, is Meanjin. The word translates to “spike,” symbolizing the sharp bend in the flow of the Brisbane River. As a result, there is a literal spike of land breaking its current where the business center of Brisbane is now located.
And of course, one of my favorite facts: in Brisbane, all streets that face northeast are named after various women from the British Royal Family! At the same time, those perpendicular to them are named its male members.
We always have a blast with those walks. It allows us not only to learn something new about our favourite city but also exchange curious little facts about our own cultures. Want to join us?
